“We don’t rise to the level of our expectations, we fall to the level of our training.” – Archilochus (Greek philosopher)
went out for lunch and bought H’s dinner.
sat there for a while considering if i want to get the same thing for dinner.
it’s dilemma because it is possible i do not need a full meal for dinner cos i had a full meal for lunch (i usually have one full meal and random stuff for the other “meals”).
but….
what if i get hungry later?
after a good few minutes, i stood up and left. because..
- it wasn’t about planning like what H did. i was just fearful that i might be hungry.
- i like the idea of the healthy meal i bought for H but i don’t really want to have it today.
it’s a small thing actually, the meal cost $5.50. it’s not a big deal even if i did gave in to my scarcity and fear. it’s not that we cannot let loose on small things like that. it is just that i chose to practice being aware and intentional today.
the navy seals have a similar quote. basically the idea is that, under pressure, we fall to our level of training.
i would like to call practice or even ‘norm’. if we allow ourselves to keep falling short, then it will be more difficult when it comes to bigger decision and choices in life. because the pressure, risk, emotions kicks in far worst than the smaller things.
